Joburg Style reviews the Asus ZenBook 14 UX425EA...

The Asus ZenBook 14 allows users mobility but not at the sacrifice of performance. Asus is a brand that has been redefining thin-and-light laptops over the last few years and the new ZenBook 14 (with the latest 11th Gen Intel processor) introduced end of last year doesn’t disappoint!

We have been using the Asus ZenBook 14 as our work and entertainment laptops, powered by the Intel Core i7 1165G7 with the Intel Iris Xe graphics. This model retails for R19,999 and is available at Incredible Connection.

ZenBook 14 Design

The Asus ZenBook 14 UX425EA weighs in at just 1,13 kg’s and has a side profile of just 13.9 mm which offers a sleek design that is easy to carry and unmatched portability in our opinion. The chassis and lid of the ZenBook 14  are made of diamond-cut aluminium alloy and the lid features the concentric-circle ZenBook finish which those not accustomed to presents a surface that is soothing and sophisticated in appearance.

The laptop has a full-sized HDMI port, USB-A port, two USB Type-C port (for charging and data transfer), a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A majority of the crowd can use this laptop without requiring any additional dongles.

ZenBook 14 Display

The laptop has a frameless NanoEdge anti-glare with FHD (1920 x 1080) display. The slim bezels mean it has a 90% screen-to-body ratio which provides the maximum amount of display area in minimal body size. Another key factor is the display 1W power consumption saving up to 63.6 on energy resulting in longer battery life. The peak brightness is 450 nits with a 100% sRGB colour gamut, this is great for working indoors but it may struggle outdoors on a sunny day.

The top of the display houses the web camera with a bunch of sensors, which helps with Windows Hellow facial recognition. The facial recognition system on the Asus ZenBook 14 works well even in low-light and completely dark conditions without any issue.

Asus ZenBook 14 UX425EA Keyboard

The keyboard is backlit and the keys feel tactile while typing. Working in publishing means you writing…a lot…the ZenBook 14 made it a pleasure to write on day or night with three brightness levels, and the bold letters also make it easy to recognize.

Asus ZenBook 14 Performance

The Asus ZenBook 14 UX425EA is powered by the 11th Gen Tiger Lake-U Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor with four cores, eight threads, and Intel Iris Xe graphics. This takes the thin and light size to new levels with its performance and can easily manage day-to-day as well as demanding tasks with ease.

Asus ZenBook 14 UX425EA Battery Life

The Asus ZenBook 14 has an all-day battery life with a 67 Wh lithium-polymer battery. Our typical use-case includes tasks like writing articles, watching videos, and browsing the web. The ZenBook 14 claims to have up to 21 hours of battery when on 1w power (150 nits brightness) but we tested it on around 300 – 400 nits and we found ourselves usually getting around 10 – 12 hours, which is very impressive.

Asus ZenBook 14 UX425EA Final Thoughts?

The Asus ZenBook 14 UX425EA is one of the most comfortable laptops we have tested in a while. The fact that is fashionable, slim, has a battery that lasts all day long and the performance to match, will tick the box for a lot of business executives, entrepreneurs and young professionals who need the portability, productivity and power to match with their hectic work schedules.
