The acclaimed German trumpeter and pianist brings his genre-defying EUPHORIA project to one of Johannesburg’s most storied jazz addresses, in partnership with the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz
Johannesburg’s jazz calendar gains an intimate international moment this September as German trumpeter and pianist Sebastian Studnitzky takes to the stage at Jozi Gold Brewing Company in Braamfontein.
Taking place on Friday, 25 September 2026, the performance arrives ahead of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz weekend and forms part of the Jazz at Jozi Gold series.
Presented in partnership with the festival, the evening brings Studnitzky and an international ensemble to 81 De Korte Street – an address that holds particular significance for Joburg’s jazz community.
Jazz Returns to a Familiar Braamfontein Address
Long-time jazz lovers will recognise the location as the former home of The Orbit, once one of Johannesburg’s most celebrated jazz clubs.
Today, Jozi Gold Brewing Company continues the address’s musical story through intimate live performances that place audiences within close reach of local and international musicians.
Studnitzky’s appearance adds another chapter to that legacy, bringing contemporary European jazz to the heart of Braamfontein.
Sebastian Studnitzky Presents EUPHORIA
At the centre of the evening is EUPHORIA, Studnitzky’s latest musical project.
Known for moving effortlessly between trumpet and piano, Studnitzky creates music that resists simple categorisation. Jazz meets neoclassical textures, minimalist grooves and cinematic soundscapes, resulting in a sound that feels both considered and spontaneous.
He is also the founder of Berlin’s XJAZZ Festival and has established a career shaped by collaboration across different genres and musical scenes.
For his Johannesburg performance, Studnitzky will be joined by an international ensemble featuring Claudio Puntin on woodwinds, Tim Sarhan on drums, Paul Kleber on bass and Bodek Janke on tabla and percussion.
Where Composition Meets Improvisation
A recipient of both the ECHO Jazz and OPUS Klassik awards, Studnitzky has become known for exploring the space between structured composition and open-ended improvisation.
EUPHORIA continues this approach, allowing different musical traditions, instruments and influences to meet without being confined to conventional genre boundaries.
In the intimate setting of Jozi Gold, audiences will have the opportunity to experience that musical dialogue at close range.
