Young creatives can step behind the screen at Comic Con Africa 2026 as the Cape Town International Animation Festival brings workshops, screenings and hands-on learning to Johannesburg
Animation takes centre stage at Comic Con Africa 2026 as the Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) joins the festival with a programme created to inspire South Africa’s next generation of animators.
As an official annual partner of Comic Con Africa, CTIAF, together with SAE Institute, will host daily workshops and screenings throughout the event. The programme gives young creatives an opportunity to explore the world of animation while learning new skills from within the industry.
Animation Workshops for Young South African Creatives
Designed for budding animators aged 12 to 18, the CTIAF programme combines creativity, education and practical experience.
Each day will feature two workshops and one screening, giving young attendees the chance to discover more about animation, storytelling and the creative process behind bringing ideas to life on screen.
Best of all, the CTIAF workshops are free for Comic Con Africa ticket holders, although registration is required as spaces are limited.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Animators
The collaboration between CTIAF, Comic Con Africa and SAE Institute creates an accessible entry point for young people interested in animation and the wider creative industries.
Beyond simply watching animated content, attendees can engage with the craft itself, develop new skills and gain a closer look at an industry where art, technology and storytelling meet.
