Comic Con Africa 2026 Brings Exclusive Films to Its Pop-Up Cinema

The Comic Con Africa Pop-Up Cinema returns with exclusive screenings, anime favourites and films never before shown in South Africa

Movie lovers, anime fans and pop culture enthusiasts have another reason to make their way to Comic Con Africa 2026. This year, the festival’s Pop-Up Cinema is bringing a curated programme of screenings to Johannesburg, including films that have never before been screened in South Africa.

Presented in collaboration with CineCentre, the Pop-Up Cinema will be located within Otaku Town, creating a dedicated space for fans to step away from the convention floor and settle in for some big-screen entertainment.

Exclusive Screenings at Comic Con Africa

The 2026 Pop-Up Cinema programme spans anime, animation and international releases, giving Comic Con Africa visitors the opportunity to discover titles that may otherwise be difficult to experience on the big screen in South Africa.

With screenings taking place throughout the convention, fans can plan their Comic Con Africa experience around the films they most want to see.

Registration Is Essential

Seats inside the Pop-Up Cinema are limited, and registration is required for each screening due to cinema capacity regulations.

Fans who successfully register should arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time to avoid disrupting the screening and to ensure a smooth experience for everyone attending.

Demand is already proving strong. Registration for Kagurabachi has officially closed, with no additional seats available.

Comic Con Africa 2026

The Pop-Up Cinema adds another layer to the immersive Comic Con Africa experience, giving fans the chance to move between cosplay, gaming, comics, anime and film throughout the convention.

For cinephiles, it is also an opportunity to experience titles on the big screen alongside a community of equally passionate fans – including screenings making their South African debut.

With limited seating available, early registration is recommended for screenings that are still open.
