Joburg’s spirit of ubuntu shines as the Moti Cares Blanket Drive spreads warmth and joy at Alexandra’s Itlhokomeleng Association for the Aged and Disabled on 20 July 2025. This heartfelt handover, part of the foundation’s third annual winter outreach initiative, witnessed Moti Cares deliver an impressive assortment of essential items to those in need.
Over the course of the event, the organisation provided more than 1,000 warm blankets to help protect vulnerable individuals from the cold. They distributed 2,220 freshly baked loaves of bread, ensuring that families had access to nourishing food during the winter months.
In a gesture of kindness and care, 2,500 sweet packs were also given to elders and local residents, bringing a touch of joy to their holiday season and reinforcing the spirit of community support.
For Joburgers passionate about community, this drive showcases the power of kindness in action, uplifting vulnerable residents in the heart of the City of Gold.
Moti Cares Blanket Drive: A Nationwide Impact
Since teaming up with the Dr Sophie Bethiwe Msiza Foundation, Moti Cares has warmed over 19,000 South Africans this winter, from Soweto to flood-stricken Eastern Cape communities.
“Moti Cares is about having a mindset of service, which is why we work to make every rand count by reaching as many people as possible through the annual blanket drive.”
~ Zunaid Moti, Founder, Moti Cares Foundation.
Because this campaign ranks among South Africa’s largest privately funded outreach efforts, it nears its 20,000-blanket goal with one final handover. Naturally, Joburg’s generous spirit powers this mission, inspiring locals to rally behind a cause that transforms lives across the nation.

Alexandra’s Moment of Hope
Of course, the Alexandra handover sparked more than aid—it ignited hope.
“Moti Cares has given our community blankets, bread, and everything. We are very happy. If they can always do that for our community… even just a blanket, I will be so glad.”
~ Alexandra Resident.
Due to the long lines formed by hundreds of people, the demand within Joburg’s neighbourhoods is evident. However, local volunteers and organisations support this initiative by delivering aid to the elderly, children, and those in need, making certain that every contribution reaches the areas that require it the most.
This event followed a massive Mandela Day effort at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where Moti Cares donated 3,500 blankets and 2,000 loaves of bread, further cementing its commitment to Joburg’s vulnerable.

Why Joburgers Should Back the Blanket Drive
Without a doubt, the Moti Cares Blanket Drive embodies Joburg’s spirit of giving. With just one handover remaining, this is your opportunity to be part of a movement that promotes dignity and warmth.
From Turffontein to Vrededorp, this initiative has touched countless lives, proving that small acts—like a blanket or a loaf of bread—can spark joy and restore hope.
