Founded to fund 14 KwaZulu-Natal non-profits, the Oceans 8 Charity Swim is a cornerstone of South Africa’s open-water swimming community. For LSA’s six boys and four girls, the Lamontville Swimmers Oceans 8 Charity Swim event offers a rare chance to compete, build confidence, and unlock future sponsorship opportunities while promoting youth empowerment through sport.

“We are thrilled to support the 2025 Lamontville Swimmers Oceans 8 Charity Swim and its Youth Development Programme. This aligns with our Learn2Swim Programme, which champions water safety and youth empowerment. Our vision, led by CEO Steve Brookes, is to ensure every child in South Africa learns to swim for survival and opportunity.”

From Township Pool to Oceans 8 Charity Swim Challenge

LSA, led by coach Lungisani Zulu, is a beacon of hope in Lamontville, offering an alternative to crime, drug abuse, and unemployment through swimming. In 2024, an anonymous donation enabled four LSA swimmers to participate in the charity swim, earning gear from Arena South Africa and raising the Academy’s profile for future swimming events.

“Our swimmers show incredible dedication. Some have competed successfully, and we dream of seeing one on the Olympic podium. With support from Oceans 8, Arena, and Balwin Foundation NPC, we’re building a powerful legacy for Lamontville swimmers.”

Nicci Carvalho, Oceans 8 spokesperson, added, “Hosting Lamontville swimmers is a privilege. Balwin Foundation NPC’s support is creating life-changing opportunities in and out of the water for the Lamontville Swimmers Oceans 8 Charity Swim.”
