After a long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Joburg Day was back with a bang! The city of Johannesburg came alive on Saturday – September 2nd, as families, friends, and your favorite musicians and DJs all gathered at Crocodile Creek Polo Club, for Joburg Day 2023.

Held at its original home – Crocodile Creek Polo Club, Joburg Day was a force of partnership between Samsung Galaxy and 947 to create an unforgettable event, and boy did they deliver! The atmosphere was vibrant, electric and colorful, with “fun” being the theme of the day.

,With South Africa’s rich musical talent and spring’s radiant sky, the event was set for success. Though it started early the standard was set high from the onset. Fan favorites, Shekinah and Jeremy Loops had every one of us passionately singing along. Not to mention how Mafikizolo had us all on our feet.

Another standout moment of the day was the heartfelt tribute to the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes. AKA, also known as “Super Mega,” left a dynamic mark on South African hip hop and the festival paid homage to his legacy in the best way possible – with music. The Mega Band together with Nadia Nakai, Khuli Chana, Da Les, K.O, Yanga Chief, Thato Saul reminded the nation that music has the power to bridge gaps and bring people together. Having his daughter, Kairo on stage was also pivotal as we all got to celebrate the irrefutable impact of AKA’s music.

It also goes without saying that there was never a dull moment with Mo Flava, Maphorisa and DJ Zinhle on deck. Their electrifying sets kept the crowd entertained, and they offered a variety of genres which include kwaito and amapiano. Mo Flava’s personality had the crowd dancing, while Maphorisa’s beats kept the energy high. And DJ Zinhle, as always, delivered a flawless set that had everyone singing along.

Joburg Day 2023, was a day where people of all ages and backgrounds connected through the universal language of music.
