South Africa’s top mixologist will compete against bartending champions from more than 50 countries for the World Class Global Bartender of the Year title
Don Julio has announced George Hunter as South Africa’s official representative for the 2026 Diageo World Class Global Finals following an exciting national competition held at Naked Woolf in Rosebank.
After impressing the judges through a series of demanding mixology challenges, innovative cocktail creations and a signature serves showcase, Hunter claimed the national title and secured his place on the international stage.
George Hunter Heads to the Global Finals
The Diageo World Class competition is one of the world’s most prestigious bartending competitions and education platforms. Since its launch in 2009, it has recognised exceptional bartenders while raising standards across the global hospitality industry.
Hunter will now represent South Africa as he competes against national winners from more than 50 countries for the coveted World Class Global Bartender of the Year 2026 title.
Speaking about his victory, Hunter said he was honoured to be part of a competition that challenges bartenders to continually improve their craft.
“I am proud to be part of a competition of this scale, enriching bartenders around the world. World Class is a tough competition, but you are meant to be pushed to learn and grow. I am glad I rose to the occasion and won knowing I gave it my all. I am looking forward to competing on the global stage.”
