The Cape Wine Auction (CWA) has become a hallmark of charity and fine wine since its launch in 2014, raising over R135 million to support education in the South African winelands. This prestigious event has garnered international acclaim, and as it approaches its 11th year, significant adaptations and evolutions are on the horizon.

A New Chapter for the CWA

Under the leadership of Paul Clüver, chairman of the Cape Wine Auction Trust since 2022, the focus remains on enhancing the auction experience each year. Clüver emphasizes the necessity of adaptiveness in the ever-changing charity landscape. “We’re always exploring ways to elevate the Cape Wine Auction — from curating exceptional lots and enhancing the guest experience to ultimately raising more funds for the children we serve,” he states.

The 2026 Event: A Milestone Celebration

The 2026 Cape Wine Auction is set to be hosted at the historic Nederburg estate on February 7, 2026. Clüver expresses excitement about the new venue, which can accommodate a larger audience, allowing for greater participation and engagement.

“In partnership with Heineken, we look forward to engaging new bidders and expanding our reach. The additional evening Celebration Event, featuring music by MiCasa and Loyiso, will provide an extraordinary atmosphere full of elegance and unforgettable experiences.”

A Blend of Wine and Culinary Excellence

The CWA format remains aligned with tradition, featuring a highly anticipated Barrel Auction in the morning, showcasing limited wines from South Africa’s top producers. This will be followed by the Experience Auction & Luncheon, where guests can bid on exclusive lots while enjoying gastronomic delights curated by renowned chefs, including Reuben Riffel, Peter Tempelhoff, and Pete Goffe-Wood.
