Worlds Iconic, a South African-owned and Dubai-based events company, remains dedicated to connecting adventure seekers with epic destinations and story-worthy activities across the globe.
With this in mind, their latest venture now brings a history-making Antarctica OCR into the spotlight—marking, for the first time ever, a world-first for obstacle course racing on the frozen continent.
Treverton’s Antarctic Connection
For this exploration into new realms for OCR events, Worlds Iconic assembled an elite operations team, drawing on top talent for this demanding undertaking.
Within this select group, you’ll find Travis Hesom, a resident of Mooi River, KZN, and a staff member at Treverton College, who, notably, embarked on a gruelling 30-hour journey to the ice via Punta Arenas, Chile.
In addition, the team benefits from the expertise of Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions (ALE), the region’s most experienced operator—a partner that, over the years, has supported countless pioneers in charting new territory.
Braving the Elements
Adventure truly takes centre stage along the race’s iconic route, which, in turn, utilises snow tracks around Union Glacier Camp, nestled in the shadow of Mount Rosso.
Moreover, the 10km circuit is packed with 10 demanding obstacles for athletes to tackle.
Participants will face challenges such as a multi-rig with monkey bars, rings, balance beams, offset steps, island jumps, and a cargo net.
Staying true to the harsh environment, the course also includes a sled pull, ice carry, and a stretch of soft, demanding snow.
A Global Line-Up
Amid all the excitement, organisers are watching the weather closely and waiting for the best window to host the event between the 9th and 12th of December.
Meanwhile, the roster features athletes from the USA, the UK, and Switzerland, all of whom are ready to compete on this extraordinary stage.
Interestingly, Treverton College is no stranger to the cold; back in 2023, Head Boy Kai Broom was, in fact, one of only 12 students selected for the Matrics in Antarctica expedition.
