With each new year, comes new hope, new opportunities, and new goals! We say goodbye to 2020 which has been not only a difficult year for many, but an eye-opener in terms of the COVID-19 virus...

We caught up with some of your favourite local celebs and asked them what this year has taught them – this is what they had to say…

TV and Radio Personality, Liezel van der Westhuizen: Listening – really listening to someone – will always yield its own rewards. Whether you’re a brand or a business partner, a boss or a new personal brand builder, people will always be the centre of your life and business – and to keep people, in a healthy way, you have to listen. Being tone-deaf amid the pandemic, has really taught many tough lessons that could have otherwise been avoided.

Actress, Nicole Bessick: This year has taught me how precious life is, and has reminded me to not take anything for granted. Covid19… man, what a thing! When this is over, may we never again take for granted a handshake with a stranger, full shelves at the store, a roaring stadium, a crowded theatre or a Friday night out. When this ends, may we strive to be compassionate, connected, curious and kind.

Professional Rugby Player, Steven Kitshoff: The biggest thing 2020 taught me is perseverance and patience. It was a tough year for a lot of people but, it gave everyone time to reflect on what is important and spend quality time with loved ones. The most important thing I took away from 2020 was that I had to be resilient to make it through to the other side.

Professional Rugby Player, Christian Ambadiang: 2020 taught me to be very patient and to stay motivated even when it seems as if there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.

Author, Model and Businesswoman, Sasha-Lee Taylor: This year taught me that tomorrow is never guaranteed and that you need to appreciate every little thing and every person around you.

Professional Rugby Player, Justin Geduld: 2020 has taught me to not only count my own blessings, but help those who may not be in the same position as I am. I was fortunate enough to give back to my community in Ravensmead which for me, meant the world!

Mrs SA Top 25 Finalist, Model and Businesswoman, Chandre Goosen-Joubert: 2020 taught me to never veer away from your goals or allow your focus to become obscured; as well as never allow negative people to steal your positive energy.

Let’s hope 2021 is a fresh new start for us all!
