From emerging South African designers to established fashion labels, Soweto Fashion Week returns to Johannesburg this November for three days of runway presentations, fresh perspectives and homegrown style

Soweto Fashion Week 2026 is set to bring a new wave of African fashion talent to the runway from 5 to 7 November 2026 at the Jabulani Soweto Theatre in Johannesburg. The three-day event will showcase a diverse selection of South African designers, emerging fashion brands and student creatives, celebrating the innovation and individuality shaping the country’s fashion landscape.

With a programme that moves from emerging designer showcases to main runway presentations, Soweto Fashion Week continues to provide a platform for creative voices and fashion entrepreneurs. This year’s line-up brings together independent labels, couture designers and fashion students, highlighting the breadth of talent within South Africa’s evolving design industry.

Soweto Fashion Week 2026: What to Expect

Taking place in the heart of Soweto, the event will feature three days of fashion presentations, each offering a different perspective on local design.

The opening day will focus on emerging designers, while 6 and 7 November will introduce the main runway shows. The preliminary programme also includes student presentations from the University of Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology, Sew Africa and George Tabor.

For fashion enthusiasts, industry professionals and supporters of African creativity, the event offers an opportunity to discover new names and experience the latest collections from South African designers.

Day 1: Emerging Designers Take Centre Stage – 5 November

Soweto Fashion Week opens with its Emerging Designers Bloc, dedicated to introducing rising talent and independent fashion labels.

The first day’s programme includes RFL Studios, Lethu Textiles, Khumo Khumo, ZIMISELE, Tsilostudios, Shirley Joseph and J. Mo House of Fashion.

Student designer presentations from Sew Africa and George Tabor will also feature, reinforcing the event’s focus on developing creative talent and providing opportunities for the next generation of fashion professionals.

By placing emerging designers at the forefront of its opening programme, Soweto Fashion Week creates space for new ideas, distinctive design identities and fresh interpretations of contemporary African fashion.

Day 2: South African Fashion Takes the Runway – 6 November

The second day introduces the main runway programme, featuring a mix of established creative identities, independent designers and student talent.

Collections will be presented by Mbobo Movement, Dominion Creations, Style by Ali, Precious Lulu Couture and the KwaZulu Fashion Hut, Enhle Babes Couture and Originally Kasified.

The day will also feature student designer presentations from the University of Johannesburg and Tshwane University of Technology.

“Every season is a chance to grow, but this one feels different. Since last year’s show, Mbobo Movement picked up a nomination for Best Emerging Fashion Designer at the South Africa Fashion Awards and we took the brand into children’s fashion at SA Kids Fashion Week. A lot has happened. This spring, we are bringing all of that to the main stage. Expect bold colours, a real celebration of who we are as South Africans, and a collection that carries stories you can feel,” says Luthando Mbobo of Mbobo Movement.

This combination of educational institutions and independent fashion businesses highlights the importance of connecting emerging talent with the broader South African fashion industry.

Day 3: The Final Runway Showcase – 7 November

The final day of Soweto Fashion Week 2026 will bring another selection of South African fashion labels to the runway.

The preliminary line-up includes utaam, Scalo, House of Ayanda by Ayanda Nhlapho, FDB Human Store, Hoss by Sass by Sanele Thabethe, Wanda Wear by Wanda Baloyi and Dope Store.

From independent labels to designer-led fashion houses, the closing programme will celebrate the creative diversity of the South African fashion scene.

The final showcase will conclude three days dedicated to fashion, emerging talent and the continued development of African design.

Why Soweto Fashion Week Matters for African Fashion

South Africa’s fashion industry continues to develop its own distinctive voice, with designers increasingly drawing on local culture, contemporary lifestyles and individual creative expression.

Events such as Soweto Fashion Week play an important role in this development by giving designers a platform to present their work, build visibility and connect with audiences beyond their immediate communities.

Soweto itself holds a significant place in South Africa’s cultural identity. Known for its music, art, street style and entrepreneurial spirit, the township provides a fitting setting for a fashion event that celebrates local creativity.

By combining emerging designers, student showcases and established fashion labels, Soweto Fashion Week contributes to a wider conversation about the future of African fashion and the importance of supporting homegrown design.
