The ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 bring powerful bass, DJ-ready features and immersive sound to South Africa’s summer party scene
Sony is turning up the volume this summer with the South African launch of three new speakers in its ULT POWER SOUND series. The ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 promise powerful bass, versatile connectivity and immersive audio experiences designed for music lovers, DJs and entertainers.
Unveiled at Sourcefin in Sandton on 30 October 2026, the new range celebrates South Africa’s thriving music culture and the growing global influence of homegrown genres, including Amapiano, Lekompo, House and Bacardi.
Sony Celebrates South Africa’s Music Culture
Under the theme Massive Bass. Ultimate Vibe, Sony hosted an evening of live performances, music industry discussions and hands-on demonstrations, giving media, influencers and invited guests a first look at the new speakers.
South African DJ and producer Chronical Deep was introduced as the featured artist for the launch, demonstrating how the ULT POWER SOUND range makes professional-quality sound more accessible to performers.
“Playing music should feel simple. You plug in, press a button and the sound is there, with no mountain of gear between you and the crowd,” said Chronical Deep.
“What stands out about the ULT range is that Sony has listened to what artists need and built it in, from the DJ inputs to the bass that moves a room.”
A panel featuring DJ and producer Soulfreakah, event and sound entrepreneur DJ Moja TK, and Sony Middle East and Africa Marketing Director Murat Gebeceli explored how South African music continues to influence international trends.
The discussion also highlighted the role of technology and digital platforms in connecting local artists with global audiences.
Meet the New Sony ULT POWER SOUND Speakers
The latest Sony ULT POWER SOUND range includes three models designed for different entertainment needs, from large-scale parties and DJ performances to intimate gatherings and summer braais.
Sony ULT TOWER MAX: Powerful Sound for Bigger Parties
The ULT TOWER MAX is the powerhouse of the collection, engineered for large gatherings and high-energy DJ sets.
Featuring three woofers, an upgraded ULT DUCT and a high-powered amplifier, the speaker delivers deep bass with minimal distortion. Four tweeters and two mid-range speakers ensure clear vocals and balanced sound.
Four listening modes – ULT1, ULT2, FLAT and LIVE – allow users to customise their audio experience, while 360° Party Sound distributes music throughout the space.
Party Chain technology powered by Auracast™ also allows users to synchronise music and lighting across up to 100 compatible speakers.
A splashproof top panel adds practicality for outdoor entertainment.
Sony ULT TOWER 7: Long-Lasting Battery Life and Versatile Sound
Designed for flexibility, the ULT TOWER 7 combines powerful sound with portability and extended battery performance.
The speaker offers up to 30 hours of battery life, while a quick 10-minute charge provides up to 180 minutes of playback.
Its orientation-aware tuning adjusts the sound depending on how the speaker is positioned, while four sound modes allow listeners to switch between bass-heavy tracks and more balanced audio.
With IPX4 water resistance, the ULT TOWER 7 is also suited to outdoor gatherings and poolside entertainment.
Sony ULT TOWER 5: Compact Design, Big Bass
For smaller gatherings, the ULT TOWER 5 delivers up to 300 W of power in a more compact design.
Offering up to 20 hours of battery life, the speaker is designed for everything from house parties to weekend braais.
A 10-minute charge provides up to 100 minutes of playback, while IPX4 water resistance offers protection against splashes.
Three lighting modes add another entertainment element, making the ULT TOWER 5 a practical option for those looking for powerful sound without a larger speaker setup.
Built for DJs, Karaoke and Summer Entertainment
Beyond bass performance, Sony has designed the new ULT POWER SOUND speakers with convenience and connectivity in mind.
All three models support DJ equipment through XLR and RCA connections, alongside Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
The ULT TOWER MAX and ULT TOWER 5 also feature karaoke connectivity, while the Sony Sound Connect app allows users to adjust audio settings and control compatible lighting features.
With ULT1 and ULT2 bass modes, listeners can tailor the sound to suit bass-driven genres such as Amapiano, House and Lekompo.
The result is a speaker range designed to make entertaining easier, whether hosting a party at home or performing for a crowd.
A New Soundtrack for South African Summer
Speaking at the launch, Murat Gebeceli, Marketing Director at Sony Middle East and Africa, emphasised the importance of music and shared experiences to South African consumers.
“South African consumers are passionate about music and shared experiences. With the ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5, we are bringing them powerful bass and immersive sound for any occasion.”
The launch also featured a dance cypher led by professional dancer and choreographer Leon Andrew Labuschagne alongside Five6seven8 Dance Studio, with a live beatbox performance adding to the evening’s entertainment.
With South Africa’s festive season approaching, Sony’s latest ULT POWER SOUND collection arrives at a time when music, outdoor gatherings and celebrations take centre stage.
From backyard braais to dance floors, the new speakers offer three ways to bring bigger sound to the occasion.
