South Africans have been through the wringer the last few years, with Covid-19, crazy weather, and riots compounding existing challenges. But South Africans are tenacious, and these hard times have revealed some incredible Community Heroes who deserve to be rewarded – and Society Cappuccinos is here to do just that!
“South Africans have always been a people who have rallied and made a plan when times get tough – and over the last few years, this has really come to the fore,” explained Candice Sessions, Society Marketing Manager. “Along with the amazing work done by many non-profit organisations, regular South Africans have filled the gaps and come to the aid of their neighbours, community members, and even complete strangers.”
During the pandemic, South Africans rallied to help elderly neighbours and those in need. Goods were shared and traded over lockdown, with food (and wine!) and other necessities passed over walls. South Africa’s teachers adapted, learning a whole new way of teaching. The healthcare workers were pushed to the absolute limits, and many other industries had to find new ways to survive.
Then came the civil unrest where communities rallied together to protect their neighbours and take a stand. Many South Africans actually got to know their neighbours even better during this difficult time, developing a deeper appreciation for the community. Ordinary citizens are now working with security forces more than ever, giving up their time to protect their communities.
“It’s this sense of camaraderie and community spirit that the Society brand is all about,” continued Sessions. “It’s about creating connections between people, breaking down barriers, reaching across walls so that strangers become friends. We want to celebrate this positivity now with the Society Cappuccinos Community Heroes competition.
“We’re on a mission to bring people together, and in the spirit of togetherness, we want to celebrate people who are serving their communities and driving connection. Whether it’s a community leader, someone in your neighbourhood who is always willing to lend a helping hand, or even the chairman of your Neighbourhood Watch, we want to give them the recognition they deserve!”
