JMC joins the Seven7 Drive on a 5,000km journey across South Africa, bringing hope, care and compassion to children battling cancer

Some journeys are defined by the distance travelled, while others leave a lasting impression through the people encountered along the way. For JMC, the 2026 Seven7 Drive was about far more than conquering kilometres. It was an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children fighting cancer and the families supporting them.

Taking place during September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the annual initiative brought together automotive brands, corporate sponsors and volunteers for an extraordinary journey of compassion. Covering seven provinces in seven days, the convoy travelled approximately 5,000 kilometres to deliver essential supplies, care packages and moments of encouragement to young cancer patients across South Africa.

For JMC, the journey began on Heritage Day, 24 September, with a powerful reminder that the greatest journeys are often driven by purpose.

Driving Change Through the Seven7 Drive

Established in 2015, the Seven7 Drive is a non-profit initiative dedicated to raising awareness of childhood cancer and supporting affected families across South Africa.

Each year, the organisation embarks on an ambitious cross-country drive, partnering with automotive brands and businesses to visit hospitals and care facilities. Through the delivery of comfort packs, essential supplies and personal interactions, the initiative offers practical assistance and emotional support to families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.

The 2026 edition tested participants with relentless rain, muddy roads and unexpected closures. However, the challenging conditions did little to deter the convoy, which remained focused on reaching eight hospitals across the country.

For JMC, participating in the Seven7 Drive reflected a commitment to community upliftment and the belief that meaningful change begins with showing up.

Day One: A Heartfelt Beginning in Pretoria

The first stop on the JMC Seven7 Drive journey was Steve Biko Academic Hospital, where the team visited children receiving treatment in the paediatric oncology ward.

Arriving on Heritage Day, the convoy was welcomed by nurses dressed in traditional attire. Their colourful clothing brought a celebratory atmosphere to an environment where patients and families often face immense emotional challenges.

The JMC team delivered 17 care packages and spent time connecting with young patients and their loved ones. Beyond the practical donations, the visit offered opportunities for conversation, encouragement, prayer and shared moments of warmth.

For the team, these personal encounters brought the mission of the Seven7 Drive into focus. The experience highlighted the importance of human connection, particularly for families who may spend extended periods away from home while their children receive specialised treatment.

A smile, a reassuring conversation or simply taking the time to listen can offer comfort during an incredibly difficult chapter.

From Pretoria to Polokwane: Continuing the Journey of Hope

Following the emotional visit in Pretoria, the Seven7 Drive convoy continued north to Polokwane, where another 20 care packages were delivered to children undergoing cancer treatment.

The journey revealed the contrast between the excitement of travelling across South Africa and the difficult realities faced by families inside hospital wards.

Parents spoke through moments of uncertainty, while children demonstrated remarkable courage in circumstances far beyond their years. Despite the challenges, there were smiles, laughter and moments of genuine connection.

For JMC, these encounters reinforced the importance of initiatives such as the Seven7 Drive. While care packages provide practical comfort, the presence of volunteers and supporters can remind families that they are not facing their challenges alone.

By the end of the first day, the team had delivered 37 care packages across Pretoria and Polokwane, marking a meaningful start to the seven-day mission.

Raising Awareness During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month provides an important opportunity to highlight the experiences of children living with cancer and the wider impact of the disease on their families.

Beyond the physical and emotional demands of treatment, many South African families face additional challenges, including travelling long distances to access specialised healthcare and spending extended periods away from their support networks.

Initiatives such as the Seven7 Drive help bring attention to these realities while creating opportunities for businesses and communities to offer practical support.

By visiting hospitals across the country, the Seven7 Drive aims to reach families directly, delivering essential supplies alongside a message of solidarity and encouragement.

Built for More, Driven by Purpose

As the first day drew to a close, the JMC team reflected on a journey that had already delivered far more than kilometres on the odometer.

Thirty-seven care packages had reached young patients, but the true impact of the day could not be measured in numbers alone. It was reflected in the smiles of children, the gratitude of parents and the quiet moments of connection shared inside hospital wards.

With six days and thousands of kilometres still ahead, the Seven7 Drive had already demonstrated that determination takes many forms.

For JMC, the experience offered a powerful reminder that going further is not always about the distance travelled, but about the lives touched along the way.

Built for more. Driven by purpose.
