From the Desk of Bianca Emmerick : A Crown, a Catwalk, a Calling: Gizelle and the New Age of Global Pageantry

Feb 6, 2026 | What's Hot

There are young women who admire the fashion world, and then there are those who already belong to it. Gizelle moves with the quiet assurance of the latter.

As Teen Universe approaches its 15th anniversary, the international pageant continues to redefine modern pageantry. With more than 65 countries competing annually for the coveted crown, Teen Universe has become a global platform where confidence, culture, and ambition intersect. Hosted in a different country each year, the competition celebrates far more than beauty. It celebrates global citizenship.

South Africa, now in its fifth year of participation, has already left an indelible mark. Local candidates have placed as high as second runner-up, the highest placement the African continent has ever achieved in the competition. It is a statement delivered with elegance rather than volume.

Teen Universe South Africa serves as the official gateway to this world stage. To hold the national title is to carry South Africa’s story into a global spotlight with polish and purpose.

From Runway Roots to Global Recognition

Gizelle’s fashion journey is grounded in longevity, not novelty. Her modelling career began early and has been shaped by a series of high-profile milestones that speak to both consistency and ambition.

In 2022, she made her debut on one of fashion’s most formidable stages, New York Fashion Week. There, she walked among international designers and models, absorbing the rhythm and rigour of a global industry that demands discipline, adaptability, and confidence. It was a defining moment, one that positioned her not just as a promising young model, but as a South African talent capable of thriving on international runways.

Her global exposure continued in 2025 when she participated in IMTA, further expanding her international fashion footprint and refining her craft within a competitive, global environment.

That same year, in a weekend that would test even the most seasoned professionals, Gizelle appeared at South African Kids Fashion Week while simultaneously stepping into a historic moment in her pageant journey. In the very same weekend, she was crowned Pre-Teen Universe South Africa, seamlessly moving between runway and royalty with remarkable composure.

It was a moment that encapsulated her ethos. Fashion and leadership. Discipline and grace. Momentum without compromise.

Pre-Teen Universe South Africa: A Title with Intention

Now holding the title of Pre-Teen Universe South Africa, Gizelle prepares to represent the nation at Pre-Teen Universe International in Nicaragua. She departs on 19 February, with the competition taking place from 23 February to 1 March, carrying with her not only a sash, but years of international experience and cultural pride.

This is pageantry in its modern form. Less performance, more purpose.

Beyond the Crown: The Business of Style

Parallel to her modelling and pageant journey, Gizelle is building a brand that reflects her refined understanding of fashion and individuality. Her jewellery line began with a carefully curated range of stainless steel and 18-carat gold-plated pieces, chosen for their modern, wearable appeal.

Her long-term vision extends into a broader lifestyle brand rooted in self-expression and confidence. In 2026, she will expand her collection to include a wider jewellery range and new product categories, all personally selected and developed by her.

What sets Gizelle apart is her hands-on approach. She dedicates her school holidays to meeting suppliers, learning about production processes, exploring materials and finishes, and engaging in negotiations. She is actively developing an exclusive range, gaining real-world entrepreneurial experience and shaping a brand with substance.

A Call to the Global Community

As Gizelle prepares to step onto the international stage in Nicaragua, she does so with the confidence of someone who has already walked the world’s runways and earned her place upon them.
