That was exactly how a Friday at Mall of Africa unexpectedly turned into the perfect impromptu date night.
After weaving through birthday-season shopping at H&M and Zara, bags in hand and appetites building, Fire Room felt like the obvious next stop. Judging by the queue of people waiting outside, we weren’t the only ones with that idea.

From the moment we walked in, the restaurant buzzed with energy.

Within minutes, water appeared on the table and our waiter talked us through Fire Room’s speciality gin selection. Tempting as it was, we eventually landed on a Glenmorangie 12-Year whisky and a classic Aperol Spritz, the kind of pairing that immediately signals the work week is officially over.
Service stood out from the start. The attention never felt intrusive, and both our waiter and the managers checked in throughout the evening, creating the kind of hospitality that makes a restaurant memorable long after the meal ends.
The tableside theatrics make Fire Room unforgettable
Fire Room has built its reputation on theatrical dining, and it absolutely delivers.
We started with crispy calamari and grilled prawns, both perfectly cooked and ideal for sharing while watching flames flicker across neighbouring tables.
Then came the main event.
The 850g Tomahawk steak arrived first, dramatically seared tableside in Fire Room’s signature style. After a long week, it was exactly the kind of indulgence that justified turning an ordinary shopping trip into an evening out.
The Halloumi Sushi followed, and once again the tableside fire transformed dinner into entertainment. It’s one thing to order sushi; it’s another to watch it come alive in flames before your eyes.
Every course felt considered, generous and beautifully executed.
The sushi worth taking home
We skipped dessert. Not because we were disappointed, but because we had another mission (and very full stomachs).
Knowing our family would be jealous of our impromptu visit to Fire Room, we ordered takeaway sushi on the way out, including their beloved Dragon Roll, Tiger vs Dragon, and the signature Prawn Fire Roll.
Safe to say, those boxes didn’t last long once we got home.
