Johannesburg’s much-loved Fête de la Musique is back for its milestone 15th edition this June, transforming Victoria Yards in Lorentzville into a vibrant hub of live music, creativity and cultural connection.

Taking place on Saturday, 20 June 2026, from 1pm to 7pm, the free-entry festival once again celebrates the spirit of artistic expression while showcasing some of South Africa’s most exciting established and emerging talent.

A Major Line-Up for 2026

This year’s programme was selected from more than 300 artist applications by an international panel of music experts.

Leading the line-up are acclaimed South African acts Zoë Modiga, The Brother Moves On, and lordkez, joined by a diverse selection of rising stars including Renaissance, [kimetsu.], Zykes Madiga, Thoknique, Namakau Star, Tessi Nandi, Thula Khumalo, Measuretutti Vocal Ensemble, Little Music School in the Valley, Lesedi Ntsane, and Khulu.

The full festival programme is expected to be announced soon.

Ahead of the Johannesburg event, selected artists will also perform at the Alliance Française of Pretoria on 13 June, extending the celebration to Tshwane audiences.

Celebrating Music Without Barriers

First launched in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique is now celebrated in more than 100 countries. The festival was created to give amateur and professional musicians alike a platform to perform in public spaces, while offering audiences free access to live music.

Since arriving in Johannesburg 15 years ago, it has grown into one of the city’s most anticipated annual cultural events.

Previous editions have spotlighted artists including Msaki, BCUC, Samthing Soweto, Nakhane, Sun-El Musician, and Bongeziwe Mabandla.

Dorine Lebreton, Cultural Attaché and Deputy Director of the French Institute of South Africa, says the event remains an important platform for artistic exchange. “As Fête de la Musique in Johannesburg celebrates its 15th edition, we are proud to continue supporting artistic expression and cultural dialogue.”

A Greener Festival Experience

This year, the festival partners with the Keep it CKlean (KiCK) initiative to reduce its environmental footprint.

Waste separation bins will be placed throughout the venue, while food waste collection and community clean-up efforts will help ensure Victoria Yards remains sustainable during and after the event.

More Than Music

The 2026 edition is organised by the French Institute of South Africa and co-produced by Bassline, with support from TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa.

Festival-goers can also experience RedCircle by TEDxJohannesburg, where visitors will be invited to share one-minute ideas about music while enjoying surprise appearances from poets and performers.
