A New Trailer and Star-Studded Cast Build Excitement for Disney’s Biggest Family Adventure of the Year
Disney fans can officially start the countdown. Tickets for the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Moana are now on sale ahead of its South African cinema release on 10 July 2026.
The entertainment giant has also unveiled an all-new trailer, offering audiences a fresh look at the beloved Polynesian adventure brought to life with breathtaking visuals, new performances and the return of some familiar faces.
Leading the cast is newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia as the fearless wayfinder Moana, alongside Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson, who reprises his fan-favourite role as the larger-than-life demigod Maui.
Jemaine Clement Returns as Tamatoa
Adding even more excitement for longtime fans, Jemaine Clement returns as the voice of the flamboyant and treasure-obsessed giant crab Tamatoa, a role he first made iconic in Disney’s original animated film.

A Timeless Story Reimagined for a New Generation
Disney’s live-action Moana reimagines the Oscar-nominated animated classic that captured hearts around the world. The story follows Moana as she answers the Ocean’s call and embarks on a daring voyage beyond the reefs of Motunui.
Joined by Maui, she sets out on an unforgettable journey across the Pacific to restore prosperity and hope to her people while discovering her own destiny as a wayfinder.
The film is directed by Emmy and Tony Award-winning filmmaker Thomas Kail, best known for his work on Hamilton, and is produced by Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The Music Fans Love Returns
Music remains at the heart of the Moana experience, with original songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina returning to transport audiences back to the islands.
