Crispy Skateboards recently took over Rosebank with their electrifying two-part event – A Night at Origin Art and Not An Afterparty. This event celebrated the vibrant world of skate culture, showcasing local visual artists as part of their Motion and Expression campaign.
The brand introduced artist-designed skateboard decks, set up a custom skate ramp at Democracy Bar, and hosted live music, creating a unique intermingling of art, community, and raw street energy.
Celebrating Art and Community
The event was a continuation of an art competition where South African creators designed custom boards. With three triumphant winners – Meli Ndlovu voted by Crispy, Steezkatt by the Origin Art Gallery, and Allas du Plooy by the public – the night was a revelation of creativity and innovation.
Crispy Skateboards’ owner, Kaelik, shared, “With ‘Motion and Expression,’ we aim to spotlight South African creativity and empower emerging artists. Our picks – Skits, Steezkatt, and Allas du Plooy, epitomize skate culture’s raw, unapologetic spirit.”
