From Anthony Joshua and Sir Mo Farah to Rory McIlroy, Dubai Fitness Challenge celebrates 10 years of movement as residents and visitors prepare to take on the 30×30 challenge from 31 October to 29 November 2026

Dubai is preparing to celebrate a decade of fitness, community and active living as the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026 returns for its landmark 10th edition. Running from 31 October to 29 November, the annual initiative invites residents and visitors to complete 30 minutes of physical activity every day for 30 consecutive days.

Since its launch in 2017, Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) has grown into one of the world’s largest community fitness movements. More than 16 million participants have joined across nine editions, including over three million in 2025 alone.

Over the years, some of the world’s most celebrated sporting personalities have embraced the initiative. From heavyweight boxing champions to Olympic gold medallists and football legends, these athletes have helped inspire millions to make movement part of their everyday lives.

Now, as Dubai marks 10 years of the initiative, the city is asking one question: What’s your 30×30?

From Anthony Joshua to Rory McIlroy: A Decade of Sporting Legends

Dubai Fitness Challenge has welcomed an impressive line-up of international athletes since its inaugural edition, creating memorable sporting moments across the city.

In 2017, two-time unified heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua made headlines when he stepped into the ring atop the iconic Burj Al Arab helipad. Dubbed the world’s highest boxing ring, the setting provided a spectacular introduction to the Challenge. Joshua later led thousands of participants in a closing workout at Dubai Festival City.

The following year, four-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Mo Farah brought his running expertise to Palm Jumeirah Fitness Village. His community running sessions welcomed participants of different ages and fitness levels, reinforcing the initiative’s inclusive approach to exercise.

In 2019, British fitness personality Joe Wicks took the Challenge to new heights. After parachuting onto Skydive Dubai, he led the region’s largest-ever high-intensity interval training (HIIT) class. He also filmed a workout at the foot of the Burj Khalifa, sharing Dubai’s fitness movement with his international YouTube audience.

Football fans were treated to a memorable experience in 2020 when Ballon d’Or winner Luis Figo joined fellow legends Carles Puyol, Clarence Seedorf, Patrick Kluivert, Eric Abidal and Míchel Salgado at Dubai Sports World. The football friendly brought some of the game’s most recognisable names together, offering supporters an opportunity to see their sporting heroes in action.

In 2021, professional freerunner and parkour athlete Lynn Jung made history as the first woman to run on the exterior of the Burj Khalifa. The remarkable achievement attracted international attention, with footage generating more than 120,000 views within hours of its release.

The sporting legacy continued in 2024 when Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos hosted an exclusive football clinic at NAS Sports Complex. The session gave aspiring young footballers and competition winners the opportunity to train with one of the sport’s most celebrated players.

Most recently, in 2025, professional golfer Rory McIlroy highlighted the importance of the 30×30 initiative during the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates. His support reflected the Challenge’s growing international recognition and its commitment to encouraging healthier lifestyles.

What’s Your 30×30? Dubai Invites Everyone to Get Moving

While international sporting stars have helped elevate Dubai Fitness Challenge’s global profile, its greatest success lies in the millions of everyday participants who have embraced the initiative.

From morning walks along Dubai’s beaches to cycling sessions, yoga classes and community workouts, the Challenge encourages people to discover physical activities that suit their interests and abilities.

“Over the past nine editions, we’ve been fortunate to welcome some of the world’s most recognised athletes who share our passion for movement,” said Yaqoob Mohammad, Manager, Dubai Fitness Challenge, Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.

“From our Fitness Villages and flagship events to parks, beaches, schools, workplaces and neighbourhoods across Dubai, millions of people have made 30×30 their own. As we celebrate our 10th edition, ‘What’s your 30×30?’ is an invitation for everyone to find their own way to move and be part of the next chapter.”

The 2026 campaign encourages individuals, families, schools, workplaces and community groups to participate, regardless of their fitness experience.

Whether it’s a brisk walk, a Pilates session, swimming, cycling or a gym workout, the goal remains the same: dedicate 30 minutes each day to movement for 30 days.

Celebrating 10 Years of Fitness and Wellbeing in Dubai

Launched in 2017 under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the initiative has become a cornerstone of the emirate’s commitment to health and wellbeing.

Organised by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Fitness Challenge continues to bring government organisations, businesses, schools and communities together through a shared commitment to active living.

What began with 786,000 participants in its first year has evolved into a movement that has inspired millions to prioritise physical activity.

As Dubai Fitness Challenge enters its second decade, its message remains refreshingly simple. Fitness does not need to be complicated, expensive or competitive. Sometimes, all it takes is 30 minutes of movement to make a meaningful difference.

And with the 2026 edition approaching, Dubai is inviting everyone to become part of the story.
