From 8 to 21 December, the Standard Bank Art Lab welcomes a vibrant celebration of African creativity that is set to spark joy and inspiration. This year’s theme encourages visitors to engage with hands-on experiences that capture the essence of making and giving, all wrapped in a festive atmosphere.

Art Lab Experience: Dive Into Creativity

The Art Lab invites everyone—from families to art enthusiasts—to immerse themselves in interactive activities designed to unleash the artist within. Here’s what to expect:

  • Festive Card-Making Workshop: A highlight of the season, this popular workshop allows participants to craft their own handmade holiday cards. Each card is not just a greeting, but a unique piece of art to take home or share.
  • Paint-Your-Own Masterpiece Station: Unleash your imagination by reinterpreting works from the SBYA Visual Art 1984 – NOW exhibition. Create a personal take on iconic pieces while enjoying a collaborative environment.
  • Charitable Giving: Spread joy beyond the canvas—donate small gifts like school stationery and educational toys for children in need. This initiative fosters a spirit of generosity and community.

Exhibition Highlight: A Journey Through Time

The festivities complement the SBYA Visual Art 1984 – NOW exhibition, which runs until January 31, 2026. Celebrating 40 years of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award, it showcases works from 40 artists, spanning decades of South African art history—from bold protest art to contemporary works that challenge and inspire.

  • Monday to Saturday: 9 AM – 4 PM
  • Sunday and Public Holidays: 9 AM – 1 PM

Entrance is free! Note that the Art Lab will be closed from 24 December and will reopen on 5 January 2026.
