Travellers exploring South Africa’s iconic Garden Route now have a striking new reason to pull over. Standing proudly at the entrance of Formosa Bay Resort in Plettenberg Bay is Africa’s largest 3D-printed structure – the impressive Waffling Whale Tail.
Rising approximately five metres into the air, the sculptural installation is impossible to miss. Positioned alongside the resort’s much-loved Waffling Whale Café, the giant whale tail features a distinctive textured finish inspired by the café’s signature Belgian waffles, creating one of the country’s most Instagram-worthy roadside attractions.

Adding another creative touch, the sculpture’s base has been designed to resemble flowing syrup, creating a whimsical visual that has already become a favourite among families, road trippers and social media creators.
