The Amashova National Classic Returns: New Date and Exciting Additions for 2025

South Africa’s most celebrated cycling event, the Amashova National Classic, is back and better than ever, featuring a new race date of Sunday, 20th July 2025. This shift from the traditional October schedule is set to complement KwaZulu-Natal’s mild winter climate. Participants can look forward to an exhilarating ride beginning in Pietermaritzburg and finishing along Durban’s iconic Golden Mile.

In its 39th edition, the Amashova not only aims to enhance the experience for cyclists but also to invigorate the province’s winter event calendar. As thousands flock to experience this historic race, local businesses can expect a boost with increased tourism and participation.

Annie Batchelder, Amashova’s Race Director, beams with excitement stating, “This new date in July has already sparked enthusiasm among cyclists nationwide. The introduction of the 132km route, starting at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Howick, last year was a resounding success and will once again feature this year. It’s a significant location reflecting our race’s themes of heritage and community.”

More than just a race, the Amashova is a celebration of heritage, offering exclusive dressing with full road closure from Howick to Durban. The event, with a 106km race starting at the culturally rich Pietermaritzburg City Hall, connects two major cities, offering participants a journey through scenic landscapes and historical landmarks.
