CANAL+ partnership creates new commissioning opportunities for African producers and strengthens the future of African storytelling
MultiChoice Group, a CANAL+ company, has been announced as the Super Sponsor of FAME Week Africa 2026, reinforcing its commitment to African storytelling, creative talent and creating greater opportunities for producers across the continent.
The partnership introduces a new Premium Drama Call for Projects, giving African producers the chance to pitch original series concepts directly to MultiChoice Group and STUDIOCANAL commissioners during the event.
FAME Week Africa 2026 Heads to Cape Town
FAME Week Africa will take place from 28 to 30 October 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC2), followed by the FAME Film Festival from 30 October to 1 November at the Rockefeller Hotel.
The annual event brings together broadcasters, streaming platforms, producers, distributors, creators, investors and industry leaders. It has become one of Africa’s leading marketplaces for film, television, music, animation, fashion and entertainment.
MultiChoice Creates New Opportunities for African Producers
As Super Sponsor, MultiChoice Group will deepen its engagement with Africa’s creative community by creating direct pathways between producers and commissioners.
The biggest announcement is the launch of the Premium Drama Call for Projects, which invites producers from across Africa to submit original drama series concepts that align with MultiChoice’s commissioning priorities.
The call is looking for:
-
Contemporary, high-concept African dramas.
-
Commercially compelling stories.
-
Strong characters with universal themes.
-
Projects with the potential to resonate across multiple African markets.
Shortlisted producers will have the opportunity to present their ideas directly to a commissioning panel from MultiChoice Group and STUDIOCANAL, CANAL+’s in-house film and television studio with global production and distribution capabilities.
The initiative will run alongside the established MIP Africa Project Pitch Platform, creating another direct route between African creators and commissioners actively looking for new content.
CANAL+ Expands the Reach of African Stories
Nomsa Philiso, Executive Vice President of Content at CANAL+ Africa, says the partnership builds on decades of investment in African stories and production.
“FAME Week Africa gives us an important opportunity to connect directly with producers and discover compelling new stories. As part of CANAL+, we can build on that strong foundation and create even greater opportunities for African storytelling to reach audiences across the continent and beyond.”
Turning Conversations Into Commissions
For FAME Week Africa, the collaboration is about creating tangible opportunities rather than simply increasing brand visibility.
Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director of FAME Week Africa, says the new initiative gives producers meaningful access to decision-makers.
“The Premium Drama Call brings that commitment to life by giving producers direct access to commissioners looking for African stories.”
Beyond the pitching platform, MultiChoice Group’s involvement will include networking sessions, industry discussions and direct engagement with creators throughout the event.
A Major Boost for Africa’s Creative Economy
For decades, MultiChoice Group has invested in local productions, creative talent and stories that reflect Africa’s diverse cultures, languages and experiences.
FAME Week Africa has become a key meeting point where broadcasters, buyers, distributors and investors connect with African creators to develop new projects and partnerships.
With MultiChoice Group as Super Sponsor, the 2026 edition aims to turn creative conversations into real commissioning opportunities and help African stories reach audiences across the continent and beyond.
