AfroTech DJs and producers Kabzin and Shezy are set to release their new single “Isibani”, featuring celebrated vocalist Gugu Shezi, in March 2026 across all major digital streaming platforms.
Meaning “the light,” Isibani is a powerful AfroTech offering carrying a deeply spiritual message. The record arrives at a time when the world faces mounting challenges, from wars, crime and corruption to the suffering of vulnerable communities, women and children. Through layered AfroTech rhythms and emotive vocals, the song calls for reflection, healing and unity, a musical prayer asking for light to guide the world forward.
Kabzin, formerly known as Karabo Matlatsi, is a DJ and music producer originally from KwaThema in Springs on the East Rand, now based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Over the years he has composed across several genres for various artists, with a strong focus on House and AfroTech.
Kabzin began making and playing music at the age of 19. At the time, he made the bold decision to leave his BCom studies at the University of Johannesburg to pursue full time music, a choice he says he has never regretted.
“Music completes me. I’ve been grinding for as long as I can remember. I taught myself how to produce and DJ because I wanted to stand out and nurture my own signature sound,” he says.
He has released several tracks including “Zimabrisio,” “Imali,” and “The Messiah’s Boy.” He has also collaborated with prominent South African artists such as Rethabile Khumalo, Bobo Jay Nzima and Gugu Kantu, while remaining committed to supporting and nurturing emerging talent.
Shezy, originally from Soweto, began DJing at the age of 19, securing residency at a local establishment. Known for sets that carry narrative, spirit and intention, she blends Afro-Tribal and 3-Step influences into immersive AfroTech soundscapes. Her collaboration with Kabzin on Isibani follows the release of her AfroTech single “Ngangoba Yini” alongside Magz.
“Kabzin and I go way back. We’ve always shared an appreciation for music that has soul. I have learnt a great deal from him technically and creatively over the years. I’m beyond excited to finally share this and several other forthcoming projects. Isibani comes at a time when I truly needed its message, and I can only hope listeners feel that same sense of light and connection when they hear it,” she says.
Providing the powerful vocals on Isibani is Gugu Shezi, an accomplished singer, songwriter and theatre performer with a rich musical and theatrical background.
Born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and raised between KwaMashu and Nanda, Gugu began singing at a young age in church, school choirs and community groups. Her professional journey began in 2000 when she moved to Johannesburg and entered the first season of Idols South Africa, marking the start of her career in the music industry.
Over the years she has worked as a backing vocalist for some of South Africa’s most respected musicians, including Mafikizolo, Hugh Masekela, Judith Sephuma and Thandiswa Mazwai.
In 2006 she released her debut Afro-soul album “Gugulam,” which received SAMA and Metro Award nominations. Internationally, Gugu has toured the world with legendary artists including Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, the late Busi Mhlongo and Jabu Khanyile, establishing herself as a confident and powerful performer.
Isibani stands as a powerful musical offering, a call for light, hope and spiritual grounding in uncertain times. The single will be available on all major digital streaming platforms from 11 March 2026.
