Joburg’s summer season has a distinct new address for refined taste and cultural flair: the House of Amber Joburg. Taking place from 6 November to 14 December at Oxford Parks, the House of Amber marks Inverroche’s bold step into the cultural forefront of African luxury with a six-week pop-up experience, transforming the brand’s pioneering gin into a living expression of flavour, experience, art, and sound.

The concept, born from Inverroche Amber Gin, which is Africa’s first amber-coloured luxury spirit, allows the House of Amber to bring the brand’s story of conscious luxury to life.

In essence, thoughtful collaborations, immersive sensory design, and a dynamic line-up of local talent achieve this.

Not only is every touchpoint, from the architecture to the music, intentionally curated to deliver a multi-sensory experience, but it also offers a fresh and vibrant addition to the Joburg scene.

Opening the House alongside Lorna Scott this week, Nomzamo Mbatha, Inverroche’s Cultural Curator, beautifully captured the significance of the occasion:

‘The proof of Amber’s luxury essence is in its spirit – its African spirit! Everything within this House is intentional and luxurious, from the design to the sound, the flavours to the feeling. It’s culturally edgy, sensory, and deeply rooted in who we are. The House of Amber brings together culture, craft and connection and it does so with unmistakable African confidence.’

The Rhythm of Refined Taste at House of Amber Joburg

Open Thursday to Sunday, the House of Amber moves perfectly in tune with the city, and for this reason, it consistently offers unique encounters each evening. The local talent has been meticulously curated in collaboration with Mayonie Productions, a venture spearheaded by Grammy Award Winner Zakes Bantwini.

This initiative creates a rich, atmospheric landscape that immerses visitors in a vibrant cultural experience. Each week, the lineup of talent evolves, and Inverroche will unveil these captivating performances in advance, giving guests a chance to eagerly anticipate a dynamic and colourful array of artists set to grace the stage during the opening week.

  • Acoustic Thursdays: Smooth, soulful soundscapes, kicking off this week with Sio, whose songstress storytelling makes for intimate gatherings and connections on the dancefloor.
  • Friends of Fridays: The tempo lifts with Mo-T, bringing his signature brass and modern-jazz flair to the Amber Patio. Smooth, soulful, and unmistakably Joburg—indeed, it is the sound of Amber hour at its best.
  • Sounding Saturdays: Weekend energy peaks with Zinny, a favourite amongst the Afrotech aficionados, providing a perfect pairing for Saturday night vibes.
  • Sensation Sundays: A slower celebration of craft and connection, where mindful luxury meets the city’s effortless charm.

These tailored sessions create a rhythm that is distinctly Amber, inviting guests to connect and celebrate the sounds and tastes found at the House of Amber Joburg.

Local Luxury Collaborations

True to Inverroche’s values of innovation and sustainability, the House of Amber features collaborations with South African brands that embody not only mindful design and considered luxury but also a commitment to social responsibility.

  • The Joinery x House of Amber: A limited-edition collection of Eco-Felt Mini and Maxi Totes, crafted from FutureFelt®, a sustainable fabric which is made from recycled plastic bottles collected across the country. Each piece in an exquisite amber hue blends functionality with beauty, thereby reflecting luxury with purpose.
  • Fieldbar x House of Amber: The locally designed Fieldbar Cooler combines modern craftsmanship with sustainable materials, specifically featuring a House of Amber leather strap, offering an elegant essential for mindful outdoor living.
  • Jack Rabbit Chocolates and 1701 Nougat: Two artisanal confectioners reinterpret Inverroche’s botanicals into bespoke treats, thus offering a taste of luxury that’s rooted in local excellence.

These collaborations vividly highlight Inverroche’s deep-seated belief that true luxury is not merely about opulence but is inherently conscious, meticulously crafted, and intimately tied to its geographical roots. This philosophy took root in the serene coastal town of Stilbaai, where the delicate art of distilling indigenous fynbos first blossomed.

Today, it continues to weave a rich tapestry that defines the essence and narrative of the brand, celebrating the unique flavours and aromas that are uniquely South African. Just like the featured talent, in addition to this, Inverroche will reveal more collaborations.

Artistry and Alchemy

The Just Short mixology team, renowned for their artistry, has transformed the House of Amber cocktail experience into a captivating journey through Inverroche’s unique alchemy.

Signature cocktails such as the enchanting Where There’s Smoke, presented in a stunning terrarium-style, and Letters to Lorna, a heartfelt tribute to Inverroche founder Lorna Scott, elevate each sip into a captivating narrative.

The thoughtfully curated menu boasts a diverse array of cocktails, ranging from sultry and sweet to dry and refreshing, ensuring there’s something to delight every palate.

Among the standout favourites during the opening week were the delightful Peach Please, bursting with ripe fruitiness, and the sophisticated Ambergroni, a perfect balance of bitter and sweet that left a lasting impression on guests.

For those wanting to take a little something of the residency to their own home, as an option, bottles of hand-crafted Amber can also be purchased in-store and personally engraved for those who want a memoir or tasteful gift.
