Music and dance celebrates South Africa
In a unique effort to promote South African indigenous music and dance, Johannesburg’s forefront cultural organizations join forces to bring you The African Music and Dance Expo at Daphne Kuhn’s Old Mutual Theatre on the Square. It starts from the 15th of June, and supporting Drum Cafe’s Drumstick, which runs at the theatre from June 8th. The expo will offer South African’s and all foreign visitors the opportunity to: see traditional South African instruments, listen to one of the greatest collections of South African music, sounds, and voices from the archives of SABC’s media libraries, view an exhibit and learn about the 11 African tribes of South Africa and their influences on our music, dance, and cultural  identity, attend talks about the development of traditional music and dance in South Africa, see excerpts from mainstream performances by Moving Into Dance, Zindala Zombili, Mzansi Traditional Orchestra, and Matsamo and learn to play a Marimba. South African Ballet Theatre back on their feet
The Board and Management of The South African Ballet Theatre (SABT) are pleased to announce that, following their announcement on their funding challenges including retrenchments that took place, exciting progress has been made. Following the receipt of several large sponsorships, the SABT is now proactively forging ahead with a new and exciting vision for the company. SABT, due to this significant sponsorship, has been able to continue projects such as the upgrade of transport for student dancers attending SABT’s Outreach programmes in Alexandra and Soweto.

Evita is showing at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre featuring the hit songs “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall”, “Oh, What a Circus”, “Buenos Aires” and many more. The show will be running from 14 August - 17 October 2010. Call 011 511 1988
Hats Off!
Jonathan Roxmouth and Louis team up to revisit the madcap musical antics of famous British comedy duo, Michael Flanders and Donald Swann in Hats Off! Sharing the stage with nothing but a baby grand piano and their off-beat senses of humour they explore the many humorous and downright silly songs of Flanders & Swann including “G-nu Song”, “Madeira M’Dear” and “Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud Ballad for Piano and Hippo”. Carmen-the Ballet
The National Arts Council (NAC) have approved funding towards  SABT’s next season of Carmen-the Ballet which opens at the Joburg Theatre on August 13th 2010 and runs until 29 August.  SABT has a busy few months ahead before their August season of Carmen with limited places still available for SABT’s winter school (June 21th – 26th 2010) where dancers aged six to eighteen years old are invited to spend a week with the Company working closely with stars as they participate in pointe work classes, pas de deux, national dance classes, pilates and stagecraft lessons. Music for all seasons with the JPO
As winter ebbs and spring beckons, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra’s third series of symphony concerts for 2010 offers music for all seasons. Running for six weeks from 28 July to 2 September 2010, the JPO’s symphony concerts will take place on Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Linder Auditorium in St Andrews Road, Parktown, with selected programmes repeated at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
