| | | Red Bull Box Cart Race 2010 | After a three year hiatus, the 4th South African Red Bull Box Cart Race will hit the streets again in Soweto at the end of September. This is a really fun day out so don’t miss it. It’s a race with a difference. The race is open to anyone who thinks they can build the greatest thing on four wheels. And not only that, is actually willing to drive their creation downhill! Participants will race against the clock and winners will be selected on their course times but also on their creativity and showmanship. The more outrageous and ostentatious, the better. With entries pouring in daily there are already over 500 keen entrants who are waiting to hear if their design has made the cut to be one of the teams competing in Soweto this year. The 4th Red Bull Box Cart Race is taking place on Heritage Day, Friday 24th September 2010 in Soweto. Anyone may enter online at www.redbullboxcartrace.co.za or call 0800 700 600 for an entry kit sent in the post |
br> | Origins Centre | Origins Centre on the campus of Wits University has established itself as an important addition to SA’s contemporary museums. With its interactive displays, the museum celebrates Africa as the source of modern man and many aspects of society such as art, symbolism and technology. Recently, the museum housed one of the Sediba fossils uncovered by Professor Lee Berger at the Cradle of Humankind, and will continue to feature similar palaeanthropological discoveries. The museum is also a hub of cultural activity, offering temporary exhibitions and lectures on a wide range of disciplines including archaeology, palaeontology, anthropology and astronomy. In coming months speakers will be tackling issues such as climate change, geological phenomena and current affairs topics. The museum is located in Yale Road and is accessible through the university’s Empire Rd or Braamfontein entrance. Visit www.origins.org.za or call 011 717 4700. |
