A Smashing time at Smudge
Smudge is a great stop for all your children’s creative and fun needs. Aimed at children of all ages, Smudge offers children the space and opportunity to develop and express their creativity. Run by qualified artists who supervise the art activity in the art room, children can also utilise all the other creative facilities. Built around a central art room, the facility offers an interactive music room, children’s book lounge, fantasy dress-up area, party room and baby space as well. Not forgetting the adults, the coffee shop stocks fresh sandwiches, soups and muffins as well as everyone’s favourites – ice your own cupcakes! Smudge has also put together some fun art activities for older children including making wooden aeroplanes, building a wooden truck, tapestry and scrap-booking photo albums.

Winter fun at the ice rink
Take to the ice this winter for a day of super-charged fun. It costs R60 per person and that includes entrance and the rental of the skates. Groups of more than 10 pay R45 each.

Crocodiles and creepy crawlies
Enjoy a close encounter with prehistoric creatures at Croc City. Here you are given the chance to hold a crocodile hatchling, python, tarantula and other fascinating creatures. Public feeding sessions of the crocodiles, not your children (although that can be arranged), take place every Saturday and Sunday at 14:00. Then, if getting up close and personal with creepy crawlies gets too much, then retire to the tea garden for reinforcements from the kitchen and curio shop. There is a large play area for the children.

A Sunday Spectacular with the Lipizzaners

This is a fantastic outing for the whole family! In 1944 a select few Lipizzaners were rescued from war-torn Austria and brought to South Africa by Count Jankovich-Besan. The stallions at Kyalami are direct descendants of those horses and are the only performing Lipizzaners outside Vienna. Over the years, they have become an integral part of our cultural heritage. These Lipizzaners appear on film and television and at various public performances as well as their regular Sunday morning shows. Shows last an hour and then join the horses and riders in the courtyard after the performance, and feed carrots to the stallions. Enjoy refreshments under the tree and browse through the second hand book stall. There is jumping castle for the children. Cost of tickets at the door R100, children under 3 free or book through Computicket.
