JHB Grill

With 30 years of experience, the JHB Grill prides itself on its expertly grilled steaks, unpretentious surroundings as well as friendly staff. Situated on the corner of Witkoppen in Sunninghill, it’s a convenient spot for corporates in the CBD, and families coming for lunch. The Grill also offers a vegetarian menu, and caters for children of all ages. There’s a large outdoor area, complete with beautiful trees. We loved their signature dish, an aptly named Legendary Pan Fried Fillet as well as their selection of seafood. For vegetarians, their ‘salad on the move’ allows you to make up your own salad. Bellini’s

Bellini’s has been around for so long (19 years) that on the day we pay them a visit they had just discovered an old menu with their Prego rolls costing only R8, 95. The prices have changed but their Prego rolls remain as popular as ever. The restaurant, located in a busy corner of Illovo just off Oxford, is loved for their crispy baked potatoes, their steaks and burgers; their carrot cake is also worth a nibble. It looks and feels like the stylish but comfortable home of a good friend. Both owners, Jenny Richardson and Bruce Clarke, are proud that most of their customers are regulars; some who used to come as children are now bringing their own kids to enjoy their food. For delicious wholesome food, in a beautiful and relaxed setting make your way to Bellini’s. It’s open for lunch and dinner.

The San Restaurant

High on the deck at the Southern Sun Hotel is the San Restaurant – nominated best hotel restaurant in 2010. This is a fabulous location for lunch or dinner with a view because the vista over Sandton towards the west is simply gorgeous and makes for one of the best sunset spots in town. Cantare Supper Club

The Supper Club is situated in the heart of Montecasino. The restaurant is popular for its food, service and great entertainment. The menu offers a variety of continental dishes as well as a world-class wine selection. The décor is easy on the eye and sophisticated with an interesting African undertone. “Ciao, I’m Fabio”. The greeting says you’re as close to Italia as you’ll get in Riverclub. Luigi’s authentic Roman cuisine has its origins in the food Fabio grew up eating at his mamma’s table. For real. And the food is phenomenal. Best carpaccio ever. Squid soup, lovely fillet steak, pizzas and a tomato, prawn and kiwi spaghetti. Tucked away in the Riverclub Centre, 95% of the patrons are from the immediate neighbourhood, some coming for exactly the same fantastic meal, week in week out.
